The Itta Bena Board of Aldermen will have a disciplinary hearing Aug. 7 concerning the job performance of City Clerk Edna Beverly.
The board voted 3-2 Tuesday to hold the hearing, which will be at its next meeting. Reginald Freeman, Derrick Hart and Johnnie Riley voted yes, and Mildred Miller and JoAnn Purnell voted no.
Freeman, who made the motion for the hearing, said he had questions about Beverly’s work. He said minutes from a number of board meetings required corrections that had not been made. He also said he had concerns about Beverly’s attitude and her people skills in dealing with citizens.
Beverly declined to comment about the hearing.
Also Tuesday, the board voted to adopt a strategic plan for the community, presented by Dee Jones, vice president for community and economic development at Hope Enterprise Corporation/Hope Credit Union.
The strategic plan covers a number of topics, including health, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, economic development and others, as well as suggested steps for meeting goals. It was assembled with the help of a marketing study as well as suggestions made by citizens at a series of community meetings.
Jones suggested that each board member adopt an initiative to promote. She said Hope would work alongside them to connect people with resources.
“We’re asking that whatever your passion is — and if you know somebody in your ward who has a passion for something — to just get involved,” she said.
She asked that another community meeting be held so citizens could see the plan.
Jones also reported that $27,000 had been secured for renovations at the L.T. Brazil Community Center. The work is to include kitchen repairs, removing carpet and wallpaper, adding attic insulation, adding new paint and flooring, installing some new doors and a new water heater and upgrading the plumbing. New benches and trash receptacles also are to be added in the basketball areas.
