Supporters of Delta Streets Academy expect to raise $70,000 this weekend for the school established in Greenwood in 2012.
The weekend begins today with a four-man golf scramble at Greenwood Country Club, followed by a drawdown dinner and silent auction at the Historic Elks Building in downtown Greenwood.
Silent auction items include a long weekend in New York with tickets to a Broadway show, a three-night stay in Key West, a Southern California resort vacation, a pontoon boat ride for 12 on the Tallahatchie and Yazoo rivers and numerous other packages, all donated.
On Saturday, supporting teams will participate in a sporting clay tournament hosted by Howell Trap Services.
Fundraising coordinator Gary Dyksterhouse said his committees have sold out tickets to every event scheduled for the weekend.
“We feel confident we’ll hit our goal,” Dysterhouse said. “We’ve had an overwhelming amount of support from a great number of businesses in town that have given anywhere from $25 to $10,000.”
The sixth annual fundraiser represents steady growth and success raising funds for Delta Streets, which will see its first seniors graduate this May.
“It’s really kind of a fulcrum point for the school,” Dyksterhouse said. “The community is becoming aware of the great things going on, and students are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
