Delta Streets Ministries will hold its third annual two-day fundraiser on the second weekend in June.
It will include a golf tournament June 13 at the Greenwood Country Club and a sporting clays shooting event June 14 at the Greenwood Gun Club.
Tickets are $100 each and include food for two at the Draw-Down event at 6 p.m. June 13 at the Greenwood Country Club.
“Each year they’ve picked up more traction,” said T-Mac Howard, the ministry’s executive director and headmaster of Delta Streets Academy.
“The first year, we raised slightly less than $25,000. Last year, we raised $27,000. This year, we’re hoping to do $35,000.”
The Draw-Down event will include music, beer, wine and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Also, the winner of a $5,000 prize will be announced. The winner need not be present to claim the prize.
Slots for the golf tournament, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. June 13, are filling fast, Howard said.
“It’s a four-man scramble,” he said. “We have 18 spots available. So far, we have 14 or 15 teams.”
The cost to participate is $150 per person or $600 per team.
The sporting clays event, which begins at 8:30 a.m. June 14, will involve 16 four-person shooting teams and is also filling fast. The cost to participate is $125 per person or $500 per team.
Delta Streets Academy, which completed its latest school year on May 16, had 28 young men in seventh through ninth grades.
Its summer program will begin in June.
At the beginning of the new school year in August, the academy will add 10th grade. In addition, the academy’s enrollment is expected to nearly double to around 50 students, Howard said.
The growth of the school has been almost entirely by word of mouth, he said.
