Triangle Chemical Co. opened its new warehouse facility in the Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Park in April.
Now, another building is rising up alongside its existing one on Cypress Avenue, doubling the size of the footprint of the Macon, Georgia-based company, according to Angela Curry, executive director of the Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll Economic Development Foundation.
The existing 7,500-square-foot building is used for the storage of agricultural chemicals, said Kenny Carlton, the company’s Mississippi Delta division manager.
It has three employees.
The new building, also 7,500 square feet, will be used for warehousing seed.
An additional two to three employees will be hired for the seed side of the operation, he said.
Curry has said as many as 10 employees could work at the warehouses when fully operational.
“What we built in April was the beginning,” Carlton said.
Dirt work on the new building is proceeding. If the weather cooperates, it could be completed before Christmas, he said.
Carlton said the company is currently storing seed in its warehouse in Bolton.
Triangle has four other state divisions: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
The company’s Mississippi other operations are located in Rolling Fork, Valley Park, Bolton, Calhoun City and Aberdeen.
Wayne Self, president of the Leflore County Board of Supervisors, who has made attracting businesses to the county a priority, said Triangle representatives came before the board last month and discussed their plans.
“Anytime any jobs can come to this area, that’s music to my ears. Somewhere down the road we’re going to get more jobs in this county,” he said.
Carlton said the agri-business market is difficult in the face of low commodity prices and that makes it doubly important to develop customer loyalty beginning at the ground level.
“Business has to be earned,” he said.
