The Greenwood Women’s Club is selling cookbooks to benefit a statewide project through the Mississippi General Federation of Women’s Clubs.
The “Dixie Dining II” cookbooks are $20 each. They come in a hardcover three-ring binder format, and a free cookbook stand is included.
All members of the federation were allowed to contribute up to three recipes to be included in the cookbook. Of the 1,150 recipes submitted, 800 were chosen.
Several members of the Greenwood Women’s Club, and some members of the LeBonte Women’s Club in Greenwood, which also is part of the federation, have recipes in the book.
The recipes are grouped into categories, including appetizers and beverages, soups and salads, vegetables and side dishes, main dishes, breads and rolls, desserts, cookies and candies and “This and That.” They are indexed both by recipe name and the names of the contributors.
MFWC President Carolyn Huey chose “Helping Hands Heal Hearts” as her President’s Special Project for her term of service, so proceeds from the sale of the cookbooks will benefit the Pediatric Cardiology Family Emergency Needs Fund at the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson.
Huey got involved with this cause after her grandson, Jonathan Paul Presley, was born with a heart defect.
“We’re real proud to have that as our state project,” said Chris Andrews, president of the Greenwood Women’s Club.
In addition to the state project, members of the Greenwood Women’s Club also donate their time and money to help many local organizations, including:
- American Cancer Society/Relay For Life
“All the things we do, we do as volunteers,” Andrews said.
The club also has monthly meetings, where they host guest speakers on a variety of topics including education, gardening and conservation, home safety and health.
Andrews said the club is looking forward to celebrating its 100th anniversary in Greenwood next year.
