People around Greenwood still are in the midst of the holiday bustle of shopping and socializing leading up to Tuesday, which is Christmas Eve, followed by Christmas Day on Wednesday.
Several churches will be holding worship services Tuesday and Wednesday, and visitors are welcome to attend.
“We are celebrating the incarnation of God on the Earth in one Jesus of Nazareth,” said Dr. Rusty Douglas, pastor of First Presbyterian Church. “It is the best news the world has ever had.”
Celebrations will include:
Christmas Eve
5 p.m.: First Baptist Church, worship with readings and music.
5 p.m.: St. John’s United Methodist Church, a candlelight service with special music and communion.
5 p.m.: Episcopal Church of the Nativity, musical preludes followed at 5:30 p.m. by worship including the Eucharist (communion).
5 p.m.: North Greenwood Baptist Church, a candlelight service with violin music and Christmas hymns.
5:30 p.m.: First Presbyterian Church, a candlelight service with music from the organ and choir.
5:30 p.m.: First United Methodist Church, a candlelight service with communion.
6 p.m.: Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Christmas Eve Mass.
8 p.m.: St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Mass in Spanish, followed at 10:30 p.m. by Christmas carols in English and 11 p.m. Mass in English.
Christmas Day
6 a.m.: McKinney Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, worship service.
9 a.m.: Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Mass.
10 a.m.: Episcopal Church of the Nativity, worship and the Eucharist.
11 a.m.: St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Mass in English.
