Brandi Rosa says the best part of her job as a child care provider is getting the opportunity “to watch these babies grow up.”
The 27-year-old from Carroll County enjoys spending her days with the children at His Kids Childcare, which is inside North Greenwood Baptist Church on Grand Boulevard. She began working at His Kids six years ago.
During her time at the day care center, she has helped with the 1- and 2-year-olds and is currently working with the older 1-year-olds.
“We do a preschool program for the students,” Rosa said. “I start with teaching them their colors, shapes and social skills. After that, we advance to potty training.”
Rosa believes interactions with the children are the most important part of her job.
“I love talking to the kids,” she said. “I think it is very important to get them to start talking and communicating well.”
In addition to teaching the children important developmental skills, Rosa also leads them in activities such as painting, singing and playing on the playground.
Having a job where Rosa gets to love on children is just a bonus for her.
“When I come in every day, they all run up to me and yell, ‘Miss Brandi! Hey!’” Rosa excitedly recalled. “As soon as I hit the door, they come running for me. I’ll scream back, ‘Hey, babies!’”
She said the most rewarding part of her job is watching the children grow and learn. This also fed her desire to become a teacher.
As a Mississippi Valley State University student, Rosa has taken several courses in education. She plans to continue her studies this fall in the TIA teaching program at The University of Mississippi.
“I have a concentration in physical education and child development,” Rosa said. “What made me want to be a teacher is the fact that you can watch the kids go from having a little bit of knowledge to being almost independent at 1 year old. I see it every day. I love being able to watch them grow.”
Outside of work, Rosa enjoys spending time with her 1-year-old daughter, Britlee, and working on do-it-yourself projects.
“I really enjoy being a mom,” she said. “I love spending time with Britlee and planning playdates.”
Rosa’s most recent DIY project involved a Cricut machine, which allows her to monogram her daughter’s clothes.
“I bought one because I have a daughter, and I spend way too much money on monograms,” she said. “So I figured I would try to learn and do them myself.”
Rosa and Britlee attend Providence Baptist Church in Carrollton, where they hope to be back soon.
“Britlee has severe asthma,” she said, “so we are unable to attend services right now, but we love it there.”
Rosa hopes to begin teaching elementary students in the fall of 2021 — but until then, she said, she will spend her days educating and loving on her “sweet toddlers” at His Kids. “I get to hang out with them. I love on them and hug them and truly wish I could take them all home with me,” she said.
