Tickets for the 98th annual meeting of the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, scheduled for Thursday, are still available.
The meeting will be held at the Leflore County Civic Center.
This year’s meeting will see Greenwood native David Abney, the chief executive officer of UPS, inducted into the Leflore County Hall of Fame.
Beginning at 6 p.m., a Business Expo and the annual Taste of Greenwood will get things started.
This year, the expo features 18 exhibit booths.
Taste of Greenwood will feature foods from 24 restaurants, according to Terry Grantham, the chamber’s administrative assistant.
Tickets for the event, which must be purchased in advance, are $35 each. Some corporate tables, at $425 each, are also available, she said.
Tickets may be purchased at the chamber’s headquarters during regular business hours through Tuesday.
They may also be purchased online at the chamber’s website, greenwoodmschamber.com.
Abney, who began his career as a part-time package loader while in college, is the 11th CEO in the 107-year history of the package delivery company.
Abney succeeded Scott Davis on Sept. 1, 2014, as part of a transition in which Davis retired as CEO but retained the role of non-executive chairman.
Abney had served as the company’s chief operating officer since 2007, overseeing logistics, sustainability, engineering and all facets of the UPS transportation network.
UPS’ global transportation network serves more than 220 countries and territories and includes a ground fleet of more than 96,000 vehicles and an air fleet of more than 500 aircraft. UPS operates major air hubs in Louisville, Kentucky; Cologne, Germany; and Shenzhen, China.
Before serving as chief operating officer, Abney was president of UPS International, leading the company’s strategic initiative to increase its global logistics capabilities.
Earlier in his career, Abney served as president of SonicAir, a same-day delivery service. Abney began his UPS career in 1974 at a small facility in Greenwood while he attended Delta State University.
Abney earned a bachelor’s degree from the Cleveland, Mississippi-based school.
He serves on the Board of Directors of the Delta State University Alumni Foundation.
Abney and his wife, Sherry, sponsor the school’s annual symposium on international business.
