A Carrollton man died Sunday night in an accident on West Claiborne Avenue when his truck ran into a building.
Danny Lee Collins, 47, Shallow Baptist Road, Carrollton, was pronounced dead at the scene by Leflore County Deputy Coroner Will Gnemi.
According to Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell, Collins was traveling east on West Claiborne around 6 p.m. when his Dodge pickup struck a transformer pole. The impact split the pole in two, and the vehicle next hit a commercial building that is across the street from Webster’s in the 200 block of West Claiborne.
When officers arrived, they found Collins slumped over the steering wheel.
Collins had a history of seizures, Purnell said.
On Dec. 4, 2010, Collins was involved in a fatal wreck on East Washington Street. Latisha D. McGahee was killed, and two children, Martizes McGahee and Zakerria Richardson, were injured.
No charges were filed.
Gnemi said Collins’ body was released to Williams & Lord Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements were not available this morning.
Investigators were working to determine the cause of Sunday’s accident. Purnell said the investigation should be finished sometime today.
