CARROLLTON – The Carrollton Pilgrimage Board is inviting people to come out to Carrollton for a Christmas Candlelight Open House Tour on Thursday.
The tour will be from 5 to 8 p.m.
Dr. Bernard Taylor, the board chairman, said the tour is an attempt to revitalize Christmas in Carrollton and make the tour an annual event for locals and those in surrounding towns to celebrate the season.
“This is the first time in many years an event such as this has been held in Carrollton,” Taylor said. “We hope that as this event grows, many visitors will make a pilgrimage to Carrollton to enjoy an evening of Christmas in the historic town.”
The tour will include five homes. Three are historic: The Oaks, owned by Pat Forde; Lum Reek, owned by Tommy and Libba Goodman; and Wayside, owned by Amanda Ferguson. Two other more modern homes are owned by Dr. and Mrs. Bernard Taylor, and Snooky and Pam Lee.
Each host will offer refreshments.
Tickets will be $5 and will be sold on the evening of the tour from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Pilgrimage Headquarters next door to the Scott station in Carrollton. Advance tickets can also be purchasing by calling Taylor at 237-4390, or Pam Lee at 237-4390.
Ticket revenue will be used to purchase new street signs for the Carrollton Historic District.
The board is also holding a Christmas lighting contest for the towns of Carrollton and North Carrollton. Categories will be: indoor decorations and indoor tree; outdoor decorations and outdoor tree; indoor church decorations and outdoor church decorations; and business store fronts.
“We encourage everyone to participate in the contest, which will be judged by out-of-town judges,” Taylor said. Those interested in participating may call Taylor and specify a category of interest.
