CARROLLTON — Carroll Sheriff Jerry Carver told the Board of Supervisors on Monday that his department’s headquarters needs renovation.
“We have been in need of repairs at our office for several years,” Carver said. “We need cracks filled, painting, the floor and ceiling need repair. It is in mighty bad shape.”
He told the board that the estimate he has gotten for the materials is $6,175 and that he can use inmate labor to do the job.
The department will need to be moved during the work. Carver said he could possibly use a trailer at the Emergency Operations Center to set up next to the office in Carrollton. Repairs will take 10 to 14 days, he said.
Carver said the county has received insurance payments for a deputy car that was damaged when it was accidentally hit by a Vaiden fire truck. He said he has found a car from the Greenwood Police Department that had hail damage but was serviceable for $3,500.
The board voted unanimously to make budget changes to reflect insurance money received and to allow the renovations and car purchase.
Carver told the board he has been told that a $25,000 Homeland Security grant to purchase new radios will be received soon.
