CARROLLTON — A two-car collison at the intersection of U.S. 82 and Highway 17 sent two men to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened around 2:45 Saturday afternoon when an eastbound pickup truck traveling down U.S. 82 collided with a Nissan SUV that was attempting to cross over the highway near Carrollton.
Robert Vail Sr. of the Carrollton area, the driver of the 2012 Nissan Rogue, and Robert Rogers of Aberdeen, who was driving a 2012 Ford F-250, were pulled from their vehicles by Carroll County volunteer firefighters before being transported to local hospitals.
Vail was taken to Tyler-Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona while Rogers was transported to Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
Current information on both men’s conditions was not immediately available Saturday night but Trooper Tony Dunn with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said the injuries were not life-threatening.
Dunn said Rogers’ Ford pickup crashed into the driver’s side of Vail’s Nissan, sending Vail’s car careening into the grassy median of the highway.
The impact sent Rogers’ pickup spinning into the exit ramp from U.S. 82 onto southbound Highway 17, where it came to a rest.
Troopers from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Carroll County sheriff’s deputies and volunteer firefighters all responded to the accident.
Dunn said the accident was currently under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
