A two-car wreck on Carrollton Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday caused one car to hit the front of Lusco’s restaurant.
Karen Pinkston, co-owner of Lusco’s, said she got a call at 11:35 p.m. about a red Cadillac that had hit the front of the restaurant, knocking out a window and destroying the bottom framing.
Pinkston said several eyewitnesses told her that the Cadillac and a Chevrolet collided at the intersection of Avenue G and Carrollton Avenue. She said she was told that the Cadillac was traveling on Carrollton Avenue and the Chevrolet was on Avenue G, attempting to turn onto Carrollton.
The bottom framing of Lusco’s, as well as a window, needed to be fixed after the accident.
Greenwood Deputy Police Chief Marvin Hammond said Wednesday afternoon that he had not received a report on the wreck and could not provide details.
Some glass still needs to be replaced, but enough repairs have been made for the restaurant to open Thursday night, Pinkston said. Lusco’s normal days of operation are Thursday through Saturday.
“I feel lucky that he didn’t end up in our building,” Pinkston said of the driver of the Cadillac.
A MedStat ambulance took the two passengers of the Chevrolet, a man and a woman, to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. It’s unclear what happened to the driver of the Cadillac.
“Thank goodness it wasn’t as severe as it could’ve been, and thank goodness those people weren’t hurt any worse than they were because it could’ve been very bad,” Pinkston said.
