Leflore County District 3 Supervisor Anjuan Brown has been appointed to the executive committee of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors (MAS) in Jackson.

Brown will be in charge of the North Central Planning District, which covers Attala, Carroll, Holmes, Grenada, Leflore, Montgomery and Yalobusha counties.
Derrick Surrette, executive director of MAS, said Brown will be filling a vacancy that opened due to retirements and elections and will need to be elected at the MAS Convention in the second week of June to serve a full term.
“We meet and discuss things that pertain to the association, discuss things that the association want to lobby in our capital that benefit the association, the supervisors and counties all over the state,” Brown said.
Brown said he’s excited to serve on the committee.
“It gives me another opportunity to serve the people in Leflore County and in the state,” he said.
“I’m real excited about the challenge. I’m always excited about taking on a new adventure and learning something that will help my constituents,” he added.
In addition to serving as a county supervisor, Brown is also the head of the security department for the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District.
He said he doesn’t have any concerns about this new position taking away from his current responsibilities in Leflore County or putting too much on his plate.
“It’s not time-consuming; it’s just a matter of juggling the time,” he said. “But I’m not overwhelmed at all.”
The boards meet at different times and discuss different things, so that makes it easier to balance the duties and give each the same amount of effort, he said.
Brown has been campaigning for election to MAS and has been talking to others from the planning district he represents, and he said he’s been getting positive responses. He hopes to be able to serve a full term.
“It’ll give me another opportunity to look at the association from a different perspective and give me some insider knowledge that I can bring back to Leflore County that will help us as well,” he said.
