The Leflore County Board of Supervisors is in the process of deciding whether it will hire a county administrator and perhaps a county controller, or someone to fill both of those positions.
Or perhaps the board will not create those positions.
Traditionally, those jobs have been held by the person who is also the county’s chancery clerk.
The current chancery clerk, Christine Lymon, has held the combined positions, but she did not run for re-election.
In January, a new chancery clerk, Johnny Gary Jr., will take office.
Joyce Chiles, the board’s attorney, presented a packet of information during a board meeting Monday that she said had been requested by the board.
Chiles reported that she included a copy of an advertisement the board might use as a guide when deciding whether it will advertise for an administrator, a controller or an administrator-controller.
She included information about salaries paid by nearby counties and those of comparable size but did not make that information public.
The board took no action.
In other business, the board:
• Authorized Jerry Smith, road system manager, to have the county’s 10 tractors undergo maintenance procedures that include analyses of potential problems each tractor might develop during 2020.
Smith also talked to the board about removing beaver dams clogging ditches near U.S. 49 and preparations the road system was making, such as making sure pea gravel and chain saws are available, with icy weather in mind.
• Approved a request for a $338,000 reimbursement from the Natural Resources Conservation Service projects on County Roads 25, 98 and 394.
• Approved a request from the Election Commission that the county pay the registration fees of $375 per commissioner for certification training Jan. 22-24 in Jackson.
