David Bradshaw is getting a little help from his friends.
In March, Bradshaw, a 44-year-old maintenance technician with Viking Range Corp., was diagnosed with malignant liver cancer.
Family and friends are holding a benefit for him Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1010 Sgt. John Pittman Drive.
This is Bradshaw’s second bout with cancer. In 2010, he successfully battled colon cancer, according to friend Melissa Colvin.
“He is undergoing six months of chemo in Jackson and possibly radiation treatment thereafter,” she said.
Colvin is the driving force behind Saturday’s benefit.
“The day that they told me that his cancer was malignant, we got organized,” she said.
The benefit includes a raffle, a silent auction, live entertainment, door prizes and a children’s corner, featuring a dunking booth and inflatables.
Fish plates are available for $10 each. Raffle tickets, including drawings for a Ryobi battery-powered chainsaw and a Viking microwave, are available for $5 each. Colvin said winners of the raffle need not be present to win.
In addition, T-shirts and window decals will be for sale.
All proceeds go to the Dave Bradshaw Cancer Fund.
Colvin said Bradshaw is a good father to his two girls, Avery, 7, and Rheagan, 16. The outpouring of support has been humbling, she said.
“We have had so many supporters. Out of the blue, we have around 85 businesses that have donated something, whether it is for the auction or food,” she said.
Colvin said raffle tickets may be purchased in advance.
“Our little town, when something like this happens, the people come together,” she said.
Those interested can call her at 299-2903 or Greg Walker, Bradshaw’s nephew, at 299-2426.
