The weather was perfect Thursday evening for Main Street Greenwood’s annual Art Alfresco event.
Lise Foy, director of Main Street Greenwood, said between the pleasant weather and the quality of the art on display, this year’s event was definitely a success.
“This event has grown every year that we’ve done it. We have so many talented local artists and this is the only time we get them all together to show their work,” Foy said.
Forty individual artists and three groups of artists exhibited and sold their work at 20 locations in downtown Greenwood, and each merchant offered complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres to the many guests who stopped in to see the displays. The pieces on display included everything from photography to pottery to pencil drawings.
Musicians Danny Abraham, Terry Harmonica Bean, Jerry Fair and Brandi Ward also kept visitors entertained with live music at several locations.
The local artists who participated enjoyed getting the chance to display their work, as well as see work by other artists.
“I had never been able to come before — I’ve always been out of town — so I was really excited,” said Whitney Kearney, the owner of Pleasantview Pottery, who showed some of her pieces at Trustmark Bank on Howard Street.
In addition to the art and music, there also was a book signing at Turnrow Book Co. with watercolorist Gary Walters and children’s book author Hayden Hooper, and the new Viking-owned K & B Apartments hosted an open house.
