Viking Range Corp. hopes to showcase its new apartments in the Fountain building during Upstairs Downtown on Nov. 1.
Most of the carpet is down, and appliances were being moved in, said Bill Crump, vice president of governmental relations. Window treatments are due in soon, and the painting is being touched up.
The building includes two one-bedroom apartments of 1,200 square feet each; two two-bedroom units of 1,450 square feet each; and two two-bedroom units of 1,700 square feet each. The apartments, which won't be furnished, will be available on a monthly or yearly basis.
Crump said last week that the properties had generated a lot of interest. No one had signed up, but he predicted the units would fill quickly.
“A lot of people who live in Greenwood have houses and want to downsize, get rid of a yard and move downtown,” he said.
Crump oversees most of the renting of downtown property. Usually he buys the property, Viking's facilities division renovates it, and then he handles the leasing.
“It's interesting to see them go from the original purchase out to the final use,” he said. “I enjoy that.”
