The fifth annual Leflore County AgFest, set for Tuesday, will celebrate the largest industry in the Delta with live entertainment and catfish.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center, those interested in agriculture can enjoy a business and agriculture expo, live music by the Greenwood country duo Jon and Angela Byrd, and catfish prepared by Larry’s Fish House.
The event is put on by The Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce.
“I think it is important to recognize the importance that agriculture has in our economy here in Leflore County and thank them for their accomplishments,” said Beth Stevens, executive director of the chamber.
AgFest will also include activities for kids including a cupcake walk, a cornhole toss and face painting.
At 6:30 p.m., Aaron Rodgers, executive director of the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Jackson, will speak.
Rodgers has been in his position at the museum for two years. Prior to that he was the agribusiness programs coordinator for the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce. He has a master’s degree in agricultural economics from Mississippi State University and a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
At the end of the evening, the Young Farmer of the Year will be announced.
Tickets can be purchased at the chamber office, and a limited number of tickets can be bought at the door.
