The Greenwood City Council, at a closed-door meeting Tuesday, quickly approved $500,000 for an undisclosed economic development project.
The Leflore County Board of Supervisors also held a closed-door meeting Monday.
In both cases, the meetings were attended by a trio of economic development officials: Bill Crump, chairman of the Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Board; Angela Curry, executive director of the Industrial Board; and Allan Hammons, a longtime volunteer for that board.
At Tuesday’s meeting with the council, two unidentified men sat in on the 20-minute session.
County officials were tight-lipped about the project on Monday, and council members followed suit, saying they had signed a letter of confidentiality, barring any disclosure about the business prospect.
“As soon as we land the deal, we can talk about it,” Ward 6 City Councilman David Jordan said.
It remains unclear if the potential business is industrial, service-related or retail.
The last economic development project that generated this kind of uniform action was the Clint Williams Co. peanut buying point in the Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Park. The buying point opened in 2012.
