About 400 people had signed up for Saturday’s 31st annual 300 Oaks Road Race as of Tuesday afternoon, said Beth Stevens, executive director of the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce.
The numbers are a little down from last year, but usually they increase as race day approaches, with about 100 people showing up on the morning of the event, she said.
“The weather is shaping up to be wonderful,” she said.
Registration on Saturday begins at 6:30 a.m. near the starting line on West President Avenue, right off Grand Boulevard.
The 10K run begins at 8 a.m. The 5K walk begins at 8:05 a.m., and the 5K run will be at 8:15 a.m. The 1-Mile Fun Run begins at the conclusion of the 5K walk.
Registration is $20 for individuals for the 10K and 5K runs and 5K walk. Registration for the 1-mile Fun Run is $15 per person.
Teams of a minimum of five people may sign up for the 5K walk for $15. Stevens said it’s important for teams to register early, since they will not be allowed to do so Saturday.
Families of up to four people may register for $50.
Registration can be done online at the race’s official website, www.300oaks.com.
A pre-race party will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hampton Inn. Participants attending the party can pick up their welcome packets at the hotel, Stevens said.
This year’s race coincides with the city being designated a Healthy Hometown by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Mississippi. In fact, the city’s $25,000 check will be presented to Mayor Carolyn McAdams at the post-race party on Front Street.
Stevens said Saturday’s events are enjoyable group activities that include something for everyone.
“Even if you’re not a runner, we’ve got a walk,” she said.
Besides, she said, participation in the race won’t interfere with college football schedules: “We’ll be done by 11:00.”
