A second suspect has been arrested and charged with armed robbery for an incident that allegedly occurred last week at Mississippi Valley State University.
Marvin Warren, 18, Ivory Lane Apartment C in Itta Bena, was arrested Tuesday with assistance from the Itta Bena Police Department, according to an MVSU press release issued this morning.
He was taken to the Leflore County Jail, where he remained this morning.
Marcus Taylor, 17, Ivory Lane Apartment D29, was picked up by the MVSU police Sunday evening and taken to the Leflore County Jail. He was charged with two counts of armed robbery and was also still incarcerated as of this morning.
According to Brittany Davis-Green, communications director for the university in a previous interview, the robbery occurred in the early morning of March 21 in a parking lot on campus.
Two students were robbed at gunpoint by Taylor and Warren, Davis-Green said. Neither suspect is a student, she said. No one was injured in the robbery, but one student’s debit card, cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash were taken, she said.
“We applaud MVSU University Police for their work to apprehend both suspects,” the release said.
“The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our priority. We don’t take incidents like this lightly. We are committed to maintaining the safety of MVSU’s campus and ensuring that the university remains an environment that is safe and conducive to learning.”
The press release reiterated that Dr. Jerryl Briggs, president of MVSU, is collaborating with officials from surrounding communities to stay proactive in preventing situations like this from happening.
The university police are continuing its investigation, according to the press release.
