Two eyewitnesses followed a suspect after an armed robbery of a Greenwood convenience store Tuesday night, helping police catch him in short order.
A man walked into the Shell-go station at U.S. 82 and Tallahatchie Street with a gun and demanded the cash drawer, Deputy Chief Johnny Langdon said.
The clerk wouldn’t hand it over, so the man made her lie down on the floor while he took the drawer himself, Langdon said.
Two witnesses saw him leave on foot and followed at a safe distance to where he was parked near the kidney dialysis center on Tallahatchie Street, he said.
The witnesses were able to tell police which way the suspect went, and officers quickly caught him, Langdon said.
The man is being held for investigation and had not been charged as of this morning.
Langdon said the man is also a suspect in two other cases — an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery.
He declined to release where those incidents happened, saying they remain under investigation.
Workers at the store declined to comment this morning, referring calls to their home office.
