A traffic stop turned into a long chase through Sidon and a fistfight with a deputy for a man Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks calls a “regular customer.”
Now Demoris Crigler, 27, 210 School St., Sidon, is facing at least 27 charges, including two felonies for evading arrest and assault on an officer.
A deputy pulled Crigler over Saturday night after seeing him driving all over the road on a county road that leads into Sidon, Banks said. When the deputy got out of his car, Crigler took off, the sheriff said.
The chase wound through Sidon several times before Crigler eventually stopped his car and ran, Banks said.
The deputy tackled him, and the two began to fight, he said.
“I think they had a pretty good scuffle,” Banks said.
A second deputy arrived, and they pepper sprayed Crigler and cuffed him, Banks said.
Crigler is charged with felony evading, assault on an officer, DUI, careless driving, resisting arrest, 10 counts of no turn signal, driving with a suspended license, nine counts of failure to yield to a traffic device, no insurance and no seat belt.
Banks said Crigler faces some other warrants on back fines that weren’t listed on the docket.
Crigler remained at the Leflore County Jail this morning. Bond had not yet been set, the sheriff said.
