A Greenwood woman’s luck at the card table turned to misfortune when she was robbed of her winnings outside Snowden-Jones Apartments early this morning.
Terrell Myers, 25, 214 Ash St., was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with armed robbery. He remained at the Leflore County Jail this morning.
Police Chief Henry Purnell said the woman left a card game at the Main Street apartment complex at about 3:30 a.m. and began walking home.
She saw a man, dressed in all black, with a gun, he said. The woman, who told police she was pregnant, began to run but her legs eventually gave out and she fell down, the chief said.
The robber then demanded that she give him all her money, or he would shoot her.
She pulled $500 from her bra, and he left without harming her.
The woman said she knew her assailant, and police quickly arrested Myers at the nearby Crosstown Grocery.
Purnell said Myers probably knew the woman — whose name was not released — had won money playing cards.
Also, the chief reported another recent arrest of a Greenwood man who is already a convicted felon.
Accardo Willis, 29, 210 Star St., passed a police officer at about 5:30 p.m. Aug. 11 on the U.S. 82 bypass, the chief said. Willis was driving 65 mph in a 45-mph zone.
The officer who stopped Willis found a loaded gun in the car and called narcotics officers.
They found two bags of painkillers as well as a bottle of liquid cough syrup.
Willis was charged with DUI (first offense), possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, speeding, driving with a suspended license and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was being held for the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Purnell said Willis frequently shows up on the arrest docket and had a previous felony conviction from Grenada County.
“He will go back because he still should be on probation right now,” the chief said. “His day was coming that day.”
Purnell said officers are doing a great job of patrolling, responding to calls and getting criminals off the streets.
