The Pillow Academy Parents Association is preparing for its second annual Christmas Tour of Homes from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Kathie Thornhill, president of the parent’s association, said that this year’s tour will feature six homes, four on Robert E. Lee Extended and two on Riverbend Drive.
The homes are either new or recently updated and will feature interior Christmas decorations.
“It’s a great family-oriented event. We had a lot of mothers and daughters tour the homes together last year,” said Thornhill. “It’s a great way to get ideas for Christmas decor for your own home. It’s a fun afternoon.”
Refreshments will be served at each home, and tickets are $20.
Guests can either drive, walk or ride the Pillow Academy van from house to house. Thornhill also said the homes do not have to be toured in any particular order.
The tour is one of the association’s several fundraisers throughout the school year. Last year, the event featured historic homes on Grand Boulevard and drew 200 attendees. The proceeds allowed the parents’ association to purchase SMART boards for classrooms at the school.
Thornhill said the association hopes that this fundraiser will enable the group to buy more technology for the school, with the goal of Pillow eventually having a SMART board in each classroom.
“The proceeds from this event help our children with their learning and it will help the teachers,” said Thornhill. “Technology, that’s where the kids are at now.”
