Main Street Greenwood will host a fundraiser for the Downtown Greenwood Farmers Market at 7 p.m. Monday at Giardina’s Restaurant.
The event will include a four-course meal prepared by Executive Chef Nick Seabergh. The meal will be composed of fresh local produce that can be bought at the market.
Because the menu will feature fresh food, Seabergh will not choose an entree until he sees what the local vendors bring in this weekend.
“This fundraiser is not only an opportunity to promote a great cause but also to sample the produce that you can buy locally at the market,” said Melissa Tribble, Main Street Greenwood executive director.
By holding this fundraiser, Main Street Greenwood hopes to encourage other local restaurants to purchase produce from the farmers market and, eventually, have them host “Farm to Fork” nights benefiting the Downtown Greenwood Farmers Market.
“We are very excited about this event and the success of the farmers market season,” Tribble said.
Main Street Greenwood would also like to thank Giardina’s and the farmers market for their support and participation, Tribble said.
The Downtown Greenwood Farmers Market is held from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday morning in the parking lot on the corner of Howard and Johnson streets. It is an opportunity for Greenwood and Leflore County residents to buy and sell their produce. The market features homegrown vegetables, freshly baked breads, chicken eggs and more.
The market is a project supported by Main Street.
