American Legion Post 29 at its year-end meeting Monday night, will name its Legionnaire of the Year.
The evening’s festivities are open only to members of the post.
The program is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Legion Hut on Claiborne Avenue with a dinner for the post’s active members, said Johnny Favara, the post’s commander.
The post will conduct its annual flag disposal ceremony beginning at 4:30 p.m. and that will lead into the monthly meeting, Favara said.
The evening’s speaker will be surgeon Dr. John Fair Lucas III, who will be introduced by the post’s Judge Advocate Luke Schissel.
Legionnaire Ellis Smith, 102, will lead the post’s singing at the program accompanied by his second wife, Katheryn, on the piano, Favara said.
The post’s first Vice Commander Richard Avant and Adjutant General Gary McDonald will present the Continuous Membership Award to the post’s longest serving member.
The Legionnaire of the Year award will be presented by last year’s recipient, the Rev. Glenn Seefeld.
The post, which has 170 members, is “going along great,” he said.
Favara said the post’s fundraising effort is proceeding along nicely. “Our drawing will be on Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams’ office,” he said.
