The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the church, 300 Main St. Admission is free.
McMahan will perform pieces such as “Piece d’Orgue,” by J.S. Bach and “Sonata on the 94th Psalm,” by Julius Reubke.
McMahan is the organist and choirmaster of Decatur Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Georgia. He has held similar positions in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Birmingham, Alabama; and Canton, Ohio.
A native of Alabama, he received his undergraduate degree from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama.
In addition, he holds graduate degrees from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. He began the study of piano at an early age with his mother, Bobbie Bennett McMahan, also an alumna of Westminster Choir College.
On Tuesday, he will perform on First Presbyerian’s Casavant pipe organ.
“The pipe organ at First Presbyterian Church would not be what one would expect to find in a small town in Mississippi,” said Ray Smithee, the church’s music director and organizer of the concert series.
“It is a sizable instrument, sixth largest in our state, and capable of playing literature from all schools and periods of organ composition.”
