A dynamic speaker will be in Greenwood on Monday addressing students at Delta Streets Academy and the general public on the Bible.
Dr. Voddie T. Baucham Jr., a former pastor from Texas, is dean of the seminary at African Christian University in Lusaka, Zambia.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 500 W. Washington St.
“He’s coming to speak about biblical manhood, about what it means to be a Christian man,” said Josh Reagan, the seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher at Delta Streets, which has around 60 students.
Reagan, who has heard Baucham speak, said his message is for everyone, including a mother, grandmother or “anyone who might have children in the future.”
Baucham, a native of Los Angeles, was raised by a single mother and did not hear the gospel until his freshman year at Rice University. As a student-athlete at Rice, he responded to God’s call and entered the gospel ministry.
He left Rice his senior year to pursue theological training at Houston Baptist University. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Christianity and sociology.
He has done additional post-graduate studies at the University of Oxford in England.
In August 2015, he accepted the deanship at African Christian University.
Baucham has written numerous books and magazine articles and contributed to academic journals.
He and his wife, Bridget, have nine children.
Reagan said at the conclusion of Monday’s program a voluntary love offering will be taken up for Baucham’s evangelical mission.
