CARROLLTON — Carroll Baptist Church is looking for volunteer readers to help read the Bible through without comment when it holds “God Speak 2016” on the Carroll County Courthouse lawn this Easter weekend.
In “God Speak,” people read aloud from the Bible continuously from 9 a.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Sunday.
“‘God Speak’ is the continuation of the public reading of God’s word in the public square,” said Carrollton Baptist’s pastor, the Rev. Fletcher Moorman. “Last year, we finished Isaiah 25, and this year we will begin in Isaiah, Chapter 26. The plan is to finish the Old Testament and most of, if not all of, the New Testament.”
There will be no comment, speeches or introductions, Moorman said: “God will speak alone.”
The church is inviting individuals or groups to volunteer for as many 15-minute slots as they want, as long as the individual or group reads until the allotted time is complete.
If weather is inclement, the readings will be moved inside the courthouse breezeway.
“The hardest time slots to fill are the hours between midnight and 6 a.m. These hours are where individuals can think creatively how to meet these demands,” Moorman said.
For example, churches, clubs, organizations or families can team up to read a couple of hours at a time.
“Just remember,” he said, quoting Hebrews 4:12, “God’s word is ‘alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.’”
For available times, call April Neill, ministry assistant, at 237-9351. If there is no answer, leave a message and your call will be returned, Moorman said.
