The reward is up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for a rash of bomb threats at Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp.
An extra $1,000 was kicked in on Saturday, a day after Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore sent a no-nonsense message to the perpetrator or perpetrators who have so far avoided detection.
“Make no mistake about it, we will stop it,” he said at a Police Department press conference. “The individuals that are responsible for this will be found, they will be arrested, and they will be prosecuted.”
Over the past two months, according to Moore, more than a dozen bomb threats have been made against the Greenwood manufacturer.
“During that time, it has caused a tremendous amount of disruption, not only disruption in the business, but the city itself,” he said.
Five bomb threats were made just last week, with three coming in on Thursday alone. Two of those calls were made to Milwaukee Tool and the other to the Greenwood police station. Employees were evacuated from the company’s buildings in the Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Park after every threat was made in order to allow authorities to check for explosives. None have been found.
Moore was flanked at the press conference by a half-dozen local, state and federal law-enforcement agents.
He listed 11 agencies working on the case in all, including the Greenwood Police Department, the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department, the Leflore County District Attorney’s Office, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the FBI, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives .
Conviction for making a bomb threat carries the penalty of a $10,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison on each count, Moore said.
Anyone with information about the bomb threats can call the Greenwood Police Department at 453-3311 or Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
