A third man has been charged in police say was a fatal gang-related shooting near McLaurin Park Tuesday.
Michael Allen Johnson, 23, 1331 Virden Drive, has been charged with the murder of Cornelius Banks and five counts of drive-by shooting.
A judge set bond for Johnson Wednesday at $750,000.
An arrest warrant has been issued on a fourth suspect in the case. Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell said this morning he expected that arrest to be made by Friday.
Two men have already been charged with the murder of Banks, 20, and the wounding of Rordera Hunt, 22, and Jared Moore, 20, in the vicinity of McLaurin Park.
Alfred Andrew Lacy, 26, 1016 Clay Ave., was arrested Tuesday morning at his home. Maurice DeAngelo Tims, 24, 804 N. Third Ave., was picked up by police on Wednesday. Bond for Lacy was set at $750,000 while bond for Tims was set at $250,000. All three men remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.
Hunt, who was airlifted to Jackson due to the severity of his wounds, was listed in good condition Wednesday.
Moore, who was shot in the lower right leg, was treated and released from Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
Purnell said Wednesday that the dispute that led to the shooting stems from a rivalry between two factions in Greenwood.
Hunt was charged with the murder of Johnathan McCoy in December 2005. The case against him was dismissed in November 2007 after no witnesses for the prosecution could be produced to testify against him.
Purnell said the violence is over nothing.
“Hopefully, this will put an end to what’s been going on with these people,” he said.
