A circuit court judge will decided June whether Larry “Kite” Johnson will face criminal charges for allegedly beating a special-needs student at Quitman County Middle School.
A show-cause hearing has been scheduled for June 15 in Quitman County, where parents of a 10-year-old student have attempted to press charges against the former Leflore County supervisor for allegedly beating their son with a belt, which wound up sending the child to the hospital.
Since Johnson was a teacher at the school, a show-cause hearing is required before charges can be brought. According to the school’s principal, Dr. Nannette Reed, Johnson — who is currently running for District 5 supervisor in Leflore County and owns several businesses in the Greenwood area — was fired by the district following the incident.
