A Greenwood woman wanted in connection with a stabbing Saturday morning turned herself in to police late Thursday afternoon.
Shelia Veal Marble, 40, 301 Green Ave., has been charged with aggravated assault in the stabbing of her boyfriend, Clinton Davis, and with petit larceny.
According to Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell, Marble flagged down a patrol car on Holloway Street at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday and turned herself in.
She was released on $5,000 bond Thursday night.
At about 3:35 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the Green Avenue home where Marble and Davis lived. Officers found Davis with a stab wound to the chin and bleeding from his left cheek.
Davis was taken by ambulance to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, where he was treated and later released, the chief said.
Although photographs taken by Andy Lo, a freelance photographer for the Commonwealth, seemed to show Marble being led away in handcuffs, Purnell said Thursday that Marble was not in custody.
Lo, whose family owns Goodwill Grocery on Carrollton Avenue, told the Commonwealth that he saw Marble outside the store at around 1 a.m. Thursday.
He said Marble told him she lived on Green Avenue. She was not wearing handcuffs.
The chief said Thursday that Marble, whom he initially declined to identify, did leave the scene and police were attempting to apprehend her on aggravated assault charges.
No incident reports on the stabbing were provided to the Commonwealth. When contacted Wednesday, Purnell said he was unaware of the incident.
The chief said the absence of reports, which are public record, might have been an attempt by detectives to prevent Marble from being tipped off by reading in the newspaper that she was being sought by police.
If convicted of aggravated assault, Marble could face a maximum of 20 years in prison.
