The man shot at a North Greenwood home Monday morning is wanted for parole violations in Kentucky.
Steven Matthew Baker, 38, is still recovering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was listed in good condition this morning.
“We’ve gotten a retake warrant from the state of Kentucky Department of Corrections,” said Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore.
The chief said the warrant information has also been given to the University of Mississippi Medical Center Police and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department to ensure that Baker is not released from custody once his treatment has concluded.
Moore said detectives were headed to Jackson today to interview Baker.
Baker was shot in the shoulder after entering a North Greenwood home Monday through an unlocked door, police said. He also suffered a wound to his head when he fell after being shot. He was airlifted to the medical center.
In Kentucky, Baker was convicted of first-degree trafficking in controlled substances and a lesser drug offense.
On Monday, Greenwood police, responding to a shot being fired call at 724 Crockett St., found Baker lying on the kitchen floor.
Officers also interviewed a resident of the house, Ann Ross McWilliams. She has not been charged. Moore said that Baker and McWilliams had a prior relationship but that he did not know the extent of it.
