The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in the investigation of the July 19 beating death of a Maryland man, and a $5,000 cash reward is being offered.
Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll Crime Stoppers Inc. is offering the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Timothy Clark, 54, was in Leflore County dealing with the sale of some land his ailing mother owned in Leflore County.
Sheriff Ricky Banks said Clark’s mother owns between 25 to 30 acres of land along with a small house and a mobile home. Clark’s body was found in the family’s mobile home, located at 8364 Fairfield Road, at 10:30 p.m. on July 19.
“We got a call from some people who went out there and found him unresponsive,” Banks said.
It appeared that Clark had been beaten to death in a robbery.
“It looked like he had been in a struggle with someone,” Banks said, adding that the insides of the mobile home were in shambles when authorities arrived.
“We haven’t been able to find his wallet. Some items that we were told were in the trailer are also missing,” the sheriff said.
Banks said state Crime Lab technicians processed the crime scene in a search for evidence. Mississippi Bureau of Investigation agents have also been working the case.
“We’ve picked up several suspects and had them take polygraphs,” the sheriff said.
Although some of those persons of interest remain suspects, there still is not enough evidence to charge them, Banks said.
Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Any information that leads to the arrest of a person or persons in this homicide will be kept strictly confidential.
Calls may also be made to the Sheriff’s Department at 453-5141.
Banks said he’s particularly interested in witnesses who might have observed suspicious persons or vehicles on Fairfield Road throughout the day on July 18.
“My question is, ‘Did they see anybody down that road?,’” Banks said.
