CARROLLTON — Carroll County Sheriff Jerry Carver said this afternoon that his department is still searching for a man with a gun that a Carroll Academy teacher reported seeing near the school’s campus this morning.
“We brought in a person of interest today, but he said he was working in Greenwood at the time and has witnesses who can back up his claim. We’re checking on those,” Carver said.
Carver did not identify the man.
The teacher who reported seeing the gunman near Carroll Academy was unable to identify the person of interest as the man she had seen, Carver said.
“We’re still trying to come up with leads. We’re talking to people. If anyone knows anything, they can call Crime Stoppers and earn a reward.”
Carroll Academy was placed on lockdown after the teacher’s report. Caroll deputies searched for the man who came near the school but did not enter the campus, Carver said.
Carroll Academy Principal Jeff Jones said the school went into automatic lockdown after the teacher’s report.
“Students are all fine. We’re trying to carry on as usual,” Jones said.
Carver said he also stationed deputies at the school.
