The Mississippi Valley State University Police Department has arrested an MVSU student and charged him with the weekend burglary of a dorm room.
Samuel Martin, 22, 1350 47th Place, Chicago, remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.
Valley Police Chief Robert Sanders said Martin should have an initial appearance today. He said he didn’t know whether Martin was residing on campus or at the Compass Pointe Apartments nearby.
Martin has been linked to the burglary of student Randi Adams’ dormitory room, located in Stewart Hall.
Mabel Adams, Randi’s mother, who lives in Grenada, said her daughter’s room was burglarized sometime between Saturday and Sunday morning while her daughter was at home. Items taken from the room include a flat-screen TV, an iPad and an Xbox video game system.
Sanders said this morning that none of the items had been recovered. He did say the department was also interviewing others and more suspects may be charged.
Mabel Adams said her daughter, a freshman, was distressed about the burglary and had wanted to quit school at first.
She said the burglary occurred by use of a key or master key, since there was no damage to the door or door frame.
She said Sanders told her that Martin was a suspect in other cases on the campus but that they lacked sufficient evidence to charge him with a crime.
