Authorities say the search for suspects in the shooting of a Greenwood Country Club employee a week ago is ongoing.
Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks said Tuesday “there was more than one suspect, but no more than four” involved. No arrests have been made.
He said previously he did not think the shooting had any connection to the country club.
Demetrus Davis, 24, was shot around 9 p.m. Dec. 6 outside the club after it had closed for the evening and only staff remained on the premises.
Davis was wounded in the leg and groin area as well as the neck, according to Banks.
It is unclear what Davis, a member of the kitchen staff, was doing outside in the parking lot, but Banks said Davis allegedly fired shots back. No one else was injured.
On his Facebook page, Davis uses the nickname “Dime A Dozen,” but there have been no public postings since Sept. 18.
Davis was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was not listed on the public patient registry Tuesday, according to a UMMC spokeswoman.
The country club emailed its members the day after the shooting to say the incident was “unrelated to club operations” but as a precaution the club would close at sundown while the Sheriff's Department’s investigation was pending. The club sent another notice Tuesday saying it would resume normal hours today. Manager Mary Garrard said it was decided this is best for the club.
