An 18-year-old man has been jailed in connection with an alleged attempt to rob an Itta Bena man at his business in January.
Robert Cornelius Ivory, 1101 Leflore Ave., was picked up by the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department Saturday and charged with armed robbery. The Sheriff’s Department had been searching for him since the first week of January, Sheriff Ricky Banks said.
The sheriff said at the time that the Itta Bena business owner was on his way home when he was approached by three men.
After being told to hand over his money, the business owner, who was not identified by the sheriff, allegedly pulled a gun out of his pocket.
According to Banks, only one of the three assailants had a gun.
The business owner then allegedly shot Ivory in the face, and the three men drove off, he said.
After the incident, the unharmed owner called the Sheriff’s Department. One of the three men drove Ivory to Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
Later that evening, officers picked up Jarvis Williams, 21, 300 George St., in Itta Bena. He is out on bond.
Ivory was interviewed by officers at the hospital and later transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Yet, when Ivory was discharged from the hospital, the Sheriff’s Department was not notified, Banks said.
Banks said they are searching for a third suspect. He asked that anyone with information call Crime-Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or the Sheriff’s Department at 453-5141.
