A 21-year-old Greenwood man was arrested this morning after allegedly attempting to rob a man at his Itta Bena business.
Jarvis Williams, 300 George St., was charged with armed robbery by the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Ricky Banks said the incident happened at 1 a.m. today, but he declined to name the owner or the business.
The owner was on his way home when he was approached by three men wearing hoodies, the sheriff said.
“They told him to give up his money, and instead of giving his money, he pulled a gun out of his pocket,” he said.
According to Banks, only one of the three men had a gun, which was an Uzi assault rifle.
The business owner shot one of the men in the face, and the three men drove off, Banks said.
Afterward the unharmed owner called the Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s officers picked up Williams at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, where he had driven the wounded man.
The injured man was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, and Banks said he will be charged when he returns.
The Sheriff’s Department is searching for the third man involved in the incident.
Banks asked that anyone with information call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or the Sheriff’s Department at 453-5141.
