Visits to friends and relatives at the Leflore County Jail landed two people behind bars themselves Wednesday.
Both were there visiting separate inmates, but Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks said the two were bringing more than just fond greetings to the men behind bars.
Nataska Prayer, 21, 511 Ave. H, Lot 5, was visiting her brother, Janawa Prayer, on Wednesday but wound up getting charged with two counts of entering contraband into a jail, a felony, after guards discovered marijuana and a cellphone while leading Janawa back to his cell.
Janawa Prayer had been given a five-year sentence for his part in a March 20, 2013, drive-by shooting in Greenwood.
In a separate incident, a 17-year-old was visiting another inmate at the jail, Jarrett Griggs, when guards discovered marijuana on the inmate, Banks said.
The juvenile was also charged with entering contraband into a jail. Banks declined to say what relation the 17-year-old had to Griggs.
Griggs pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Jan. 29. He had been charged with murder in the Sept. 15, 2012, death of 31-year-old Christopher Cross, who was found shot to death inside his car in Itta Bena.
Griggs was given a 15-year sentence.
