A Greenwood man who is accused of knowingly exposing four persons to the HIV virus waived a probable cause hearing Wednesday.
The case against Trevous McGee, 37, 503 N. Third Ave., now moves to consideration before a Leflore County grand jury.
McGee was initially charged, following his arrest last month, with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of statutory rape. Since then, he also has been charged for failing to register as a sex offender.
McGee is alleged to have had intercourse with others knowing that he was infected with the HIV virus, according to Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore.
Moore declined this morning to identify the gender or age range of McGee’s alleged victims, although one is apparently a minor. Moore said he is not aware of any additional victims having come forward in the case.
McGee’s arrest followed a four-month joint investigation by the Police Department and the Mississippi Department of Health.
Moore said the investigation was initiated by Dr. Alfio Rausa, health officer for District III, contacting police. Rausa could not be reached for comment this morning.
McGee has remained in the Leflore County Jail since May 11.
Initially, bond was set at $100,000 for the assault charges and $50,000 for the statutory rape charge.
Wednesday’s hearing, at which McGee did not appear, was held before Leflore County Court Judge Kevin Adams.
McGee’s case will probably be heard by the next grand jury, which should convene in September, according to Moore.
