A Greenwood man has been charged with a Sunday night armed robbery in Leflore County.
Milton Lee Gilbert, 24, 109 Ainsworth St., remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.
Gilbert was wanted in connection with the robbery of Triple Stop No. 4 on Mississippi 430.
“We got him yesterday afternoon. He was over in an apartment on Carrollton Avenue,” Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks said this morning.
Deputies, assisted by officers from the Greenwood Police Department, entered the apartment and found Gilbert alone. He offered no resistance, the sheriff said.
Gilbert was also on crutches. Banks said Gilbert must have injured his leg as deputies pursued him on foot Monday. After eluding capture, Gilbert had someone take him to the hospital in Indianola, where his leg was treated, the sheriff said.
Gilbert gave investigators a statement, but they did not recover the gun or the money taken in the robbery, Banks said.
The robbery of Triple Stop happened only a few hours before a similar robbery at the Scott store at the intersection of U.S. 82 and Mississippi 7.
Although both incidents featured masked lone gunmen in black outfits, Gilbert’s injuries likely rule him out of the Scott robbery, the sheriff said.
Banks said more arrests may be made because it is likely that someone helped Gilbert dispose of the gun and money.
