Four suspects have been charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery in connection with the beating of a Greenwood motel guest Saturday night.
Tellis Miller, 26, 712 St. Charles St.; Lillie Gillespie, 17, 442 W. Harding Ave.; Moses Kinds, 22, 205 Elm St.; and Terrance Harper, 37, 212 Ave. H, Apt. C, remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.
Bond was set at $30,000 for each suspect Tuesday, Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore said.
Although Gillespie is a juvenile, she is being charged as an adult, the chief said.
Harper — who had an unrelated outstanding warrant for simple assault — has an additional $1,000 bond requirement.
The chief said initial reports, published in Tuesday’s Commonwealth, that Miller had been charged with attempted armed robbery were due to a clerical error.
A fifth suspect, who has been in custody since Monday, will likely be charged with conspiracy today, the chief said.
The victim, Edgar Poe, was staying at America’s Best Value Inn and Suites, 621 U.S. 82 West. He told police he was robbed by a female and three males. Poe was struck on the head with a beer bottle and a handgun. He told police the robbers took more than $300 and a cellphone before fleeing.
Poe was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and later released.
