Three suspects are being held for investigation in Tuesday’s fatal shooting of a 48-year-old man in South Greenwood.
Greenwood Police Chief Ray Moore said a 19-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman and a 44-year-old woman are in custody.
Two of the suspects were picked up Wednesday evening in Carroll County by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, and the 44-year-old woman was arrested by Greenwood police in the city.
The weapon used in the homicide, a .22-caliber handgun, was recovered at the residence of the suspected shooter in Carroll County, according to Moore.
“We are pretty sure we do have the shooter in custody,” Moore said.
All three of the suspects remained in the Leflore County Jail as of this morning.
Bryant Keith Ramsey, 48, 217 Canary Cove, died of a gunshot wound to the head. His body was transported to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.
Police received a call at 5:44 p.m. Tuesday that shots had been fired near the intersection of Broad Street and Avenue K, and a male was lying on the ground.
When officers arrived, the victim was unresponsive, according to Moore. No one else was injured in the shooting.
Moore said a motive is still under investigation. It would be the first homicide in the city in 2018, after a year in which no homicides were recorded, and the second in Leflore County.
Greenwood police also dealt with an unrelated stabbing on Main Street Wednesday afternoon.
Clayton Davis, 29, 1620 Main St., was stabbed once on his left side, near the stomach, after a domestic dispute, Moore said. Davis was taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, but a hospital official said this morning it did not have a patient with that name. A female suspect was being held at the Leflore County Jail.
Moore said police are uncertain as to the nature of the dispute that led to the stabbing.
