A second Itta Bena suspect has been charged in connection with a shooting into an occupied dwelling on Feb. 23.
Jemichael Ross, 25, 210 County Road 131, remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning. Bond has been set at $20,000.
Ross has been in the jail since the shooting last month. Initially he was held on contempt of court charges for more than $3,000 in outstanding fines, according to Acting Itta Bena Police Chief Ted Washington.
A second suspect in the shooting, Markevis Swinney, 18, 114 Kennedy Drive, had already been charged with aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
Bond for Swinney was set last week at $100,000.
Swinney and Ross are alleged members of the “So Icy” gang, according to Washington.
Following a dispute with an Itta Bena resident on Feb. 22, Swinney and Ross showed up armed early the next morning outside the resident’s house and opened fire, the chief said.
Swinney also allegedly held a gun to a woman’s head during the incident.
It was only after another gang member interceded that the woman was released, Washington said.
No one was injured in the shooting incident.
Washington said, based upon eyewitness statements, Ross fired at the dwelling with a handgun.
