Two men pleaded guilty and were sentenced for unrelated charges in Circuit Court on Monday.
Tyrone Cason, 40, 110 Leflore County Road, Schlater, pleaded guilty to a felony domestic violence charge from April 2014. Leflore Cou L
Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks said Cason was charged after striking his 67-year-old girlfriend in the head several times. The two had been living together in Schlater for 10 years.
The woman went to the hospital for severe head injuries, Banks said. Her son pressed charges and removed her from the home.
Cason was given a 10-year sentence.
Devin Brooks, 20, 114 Haley St., Itta Bena, pleaded guilty to a June 2013 statutory rape.
Brooks, who was 18 at the time, had sex with a 13-year-old girl. Banks said Brooks had first been booked in July 2013.
Brooks received a 20-year sentence.
Both Cason and Brooks were sentenced to serve a mandatory five years, with post-release supervision required, Banks said.
