Two men have been charged in the shooting death of an Itta Bena man on Wednesday, and the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department also is investigating an unrelated shooting that occurred this morning.
Larenza Darnell Brooks, 17, 123 Hampton Road, Sunflower, has been charged with murder in the death of 22-year-old Dalvin Pacley and remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning, Sheriff Ricky Banks said.
A second suspect, Malcolm Barrow, 30, 111 Douglas St., Itta Bena, has been charged as an accessory after the fact in Pacley’s death.
Brooks and Barrow remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.
Banks said that an ongoing turf war in Itta Bena led to the shooting of Pacley. The death is the sixth homicide in Leflore County this year; the previous five occurred in Greenwood.
Banks said two other males, age 17 and 26, were being held in connection with the shooting but were likely to be released today with no charges being filed.
In another shooting early this morning, Marquavous Mays, 1530 Highland Ave., was wounded in a domestic dispute.
Deputies were called to the Greenwood Leflore Hospital emergency room, where Mays was being treated for a gunshot wound to his left shoulder, the sheriff said. Mays was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was in fair condition this morning.
